Thanks, uksushi--I have enough Avios that I can purchase two award tickets if needed--with any luck someone can confirm that companion vouchers come back with the same alacrity!
I've cancelled 2 over the years (most recent 2 weeks or so ago), in both cases the return was instant
(although on the last occasion, due to caching I think, it did not look like it was back, on logging in via the anonymous browser function on Chrome though it appeared straight away, along with the mies)
