as always, it helps if you have an acceptable option or two that you can present when you request the change

customer service reps will often empathize with unavailability of transportation to the ultimate destination ("After I get off the DL flight at XXX I'm actually going by bus/train to YYY at hh:mm which is the last trip of the day, so by arriving 1+15 later I now have to overnight at XXX or spend a ridiculous amount of money for a taxi or a one-way car rental.")
