Why should I convert to Starwood?

I have read many suggestions to convert to Starwood due to the devaluations of the Marriott and Hilton programs. I get Gold status due to my platinum AMEX, but our corporate policies limit our stays at FS hotels such as Sheraton and Westin. I stayed once at an Aloft and don't really like it (reminds me of college dorm). I no longer stay at Courtyards who appear to be emulating Alofts.

Where can I stay in the Starwood chains. If FS hotels are outside our corporate guidelines, i currently prefer Springhill Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood or Residence (depending on age of property), or Fairfield.

I primarily travel in the US.
