A little consideration goes a long way in the cramped confines of an airplane. I like to watch the show Spartacus but I'd never watch it on a plane. Some might be offended by the extreme level of nudity and violence, looking away isn't always easy, and beside it's entirely inappropriate for children who instead of looking away may look toward.
I don't believe that it's my job to make sure that you are comfortable. If you don't like what's on my screen, don't watch it. If you don't want your children to watch what's on my screen, teach them manners. This doesn't rise anywhere near the level of a smelly food or obnoxious drunk level.
And even if you disagree with that would you at least agree that films with graphic sex and violence shouldn't be shown on drop-down screens?
I couldn't care less what's on the drop down screens because, as a functional adult, I'm capable of avoiding an airline that shows things I don't want to see. *shrug* Stop making me responsible for your life.
