I am able to select exit row seats on the Etihad web site with manage my booking. A little popup appears to confirm you are over 15 years old and are willing to take on the responsibility. I didn't select them at the time but when I was choosing my seat but they were available for selection and I've just gone to the site and selected them without actually changing my seat assignment. This is interesting. I will try again on Sunday when I will be travelling in economy class again. Earlier this week the emergency row seats were mostly showing as "available" on expertflyer but could consistently not be chosen in the check-in tool (and I was checking in 24h ahead of the flight).
