Really not hearing any harmful intention here. Sounds like the GA gave the op-up to the OP probably because he was the highest ranking Medallion. Guess the GA could have asked first, and just as easily gone on to the next Medallion flying alone but it is rare that any elite is going to pass up an op-up into biz. Heck, I would have taken the seat and given it to my wife.
