We were at the Laguna in 2010 and it was fine. There were a lot of Russians around and they could be boorish at times but the resort was fine. The Westin next door seemed good too. We ate there but didn't stay. The Indonesian Restaurant in the Laguna was really good. Expensive perhaps by Indonesian standards but cheap by Western. 9 Just checed the website for its name and it seems it has gone and replaced with Cornerstone). I agree with comments on the seafood buffet though. A waste of time and money.
I know people don't like Nusa Dua because it's too touristy but I found Seminyak and Kuta to be really kitschy and trashy. OK for a visit but wouldn't want to stay there personally. My only other suggestion would be to hire a driver and get off the resort. They were available for $35 -$50 for a 12- 13 hour day, with vehicle and fuel included. You can find them everywhere. The hotel shuttle driver had business cards of some he was giving out if you asked.
