I thought on TSA website it says Global Entry are automatically enrolled in TSA Pre privileges.
Unfortunately it takes more intervention on your part.. as the other poster said, your PreCheck authorization has to be contained in the bar code of your boarding pass. For each itinerary you book be sure you add your known traveler number (PASSID from your GE card) to your reservation and be sure the name on your ticket matches your GE card exactly. Then you should be good to go. But it won't work on international itineraries.. only 100% domestic itins. Southwest doesn't participate yet.. most of the major domestic carriers do though.. UA, AA, DL, US, AS and probably others.

There are only 2 actual uses for your GE card.. they are valid as govt issued photo ID (but they are not proof of citizenship and are not a substitute for a passport except in one instance), and that is.. you can use it when crossing the land border into the US from Canada or Mexico in the Nexus or SENTRI lanes which will save you some time..you don't need any other ID. Otherwise the card is useless.
