i think the bigger question is why do you need your nail clipper on your person? Why would a mostly plastic one make a difference? You need to empty out your pockets for the body scanners anyway. It's just another thing to empty into trays for xraying. Why do you need it in your pocket at all? Do you need to have it on your person? Leave it in your bag.
I don't necessarily need one on my person, but I do need one in my "personal item," (aka my purse) because 1) I have lousy nails and have NEVER taken a trip where I have not broken a nail, and 2) because I use a nail clipper to clip the little cable ties off of my checked suitcase. I use locks on the big opening of my suitcase, but there are smaller zippers that I'd like to stay closed during transit, but don't have enough locks to lock them all.
