Ideally I would be able to bring this as a primary carry-on for a trip up to 6-7 days (warm weather climate) plus a small laptop bag pack.
This is a rolling duffle, a little less balanced than a rolling upright (wheels on the narrower side). The bag is discontinued. According to some sites I have seen the similar black version of the bag (model 22946) weighs 7 pounds, which is pretty good considering that comes with a shoulder strap, which is probably at least 8 ounces and is removable. (Still heavier than the other bags we have discussed at 4.5 to 6 pounds). I think the version you are looking at is the 22040, which may not have had the rather useful shoulder strap.
This bag would probably be easier to get on board than a typical upright when space is tight and the agents are being difficult; that offsets the more awkward rolling capability.
Most of the other bags we have discussing are much better suited for use as a roller off smooth pavement as they have larger wheels with a bit of a raised chassis and better balance as the axis is on the 14" side of the bag not the 9" side.
I think this bag would be practical for some travel (more limited rolling); less so for other (e.g., cobblestones). I like it in any case.
