ORD-HKG is the longest flight in UA's system at 15+ hours so E+ is definitely worth the price. Don't wait to purchase as these seats will go quickly.

Business class upgrade for 30k miles+$450 is absolutely worth it if you can get it. You will be placed on the upgrade waitlist and will be refunded if you do not clear. Upgrades are cleared based on status and availability so you will be at the bottom of the list because of your lack of status. Pick a Tues or Wed flight if possible to maximize your chances.

ORD-HKG recently changed from a 747 to 777 so the number of Business class seats have been reduced from 52 to 40 so this also affects your chances of clearing.

On the other hand, you should have IFE in the seat back in E+ so that's at least some consolation.
