Speaking as a regular Fallows reader, I can attest that he writes about commercial aviation often, and the only thing I've seen him consistently--and deservedly!--tee off on is TSA security theater.

Nope. Never read him before and never heard of him before.
Reading the blog in question and the earlier two it linked to, it is very clear (at least to me) that he is presently irked with United and is using his position to exploit it. In this case, when such unsubstantiated stories are published without first seeking comment from the airline and giving them a reasonable period of time in which to respond before publication, I see that as a hack job.
That said, United deserves all the bad press they receive. It just is not professional journalism.

Saying all PG-13 films are acceptable is sure sight a lot better than saying, "Some R movies and some PG-13 movies may be ok."
