OP asked about domestic flights, and the limit is 23kg for a domestic flight IF you're not connecting to or from an international flight.

"Always" room in the overheads is not my experience. Usually there is at least some room, but they can fill up. Boarding can be quick, though people do tend to line up well in advance, and don't always board strictly by their zone, nor is this always enforced (just like in the U.S.). Haven't seen any pushing or shoving, however. Worst airport I've seen for boarding, at least for domestic flights, was Brasilia, since it's so cramped.

On at least some arilrines you can pay a bit extra at the airport to get a premium seat (e.g., bulkhead, exit row). Technically you're not supposed to be in an exit row unless you can clearly understand and execute instructions given in Portuguese, but I haven't seen this always enforced.
