Respectfully, would never diminish your own personal experience, but must disagree with the "quite often" part. (I fly alot). Not to minimize early issues, the IFE system has greatly been stabilized - don't think I've had more than 2 individual PTV resets in the last 3 months. As far as complete failure? I can't even recall. I manually check the Airshow/Map to ensure that it's always triggered and functional.
