I'm not sure if saving $300 is worth it in this case. If you got charge $70 for an extra bag , thats total of $140. Plus you only have 1 hour transit, I hope it its one ticket so you'll be protected. Have you check other ticket sources to get better price?
I got an agent I usually use in US, not sure if they do Canada.
Since OP is a student....chances are he/she are hoping to travel at the end of the semester (late April/early May) or the summer July/August months. Pretty sure the prices are quite high already....and he/she looked at most, if not all sources already....
The one hour transit is fine. Just question of how many luggage OP's planning to to bring...
