I have always assumed that I would have to requalify this year, next year will be year 0 and automatic (to be sure I will just need to get in a single segment), and the LTPE card will arrive spring 2015.
As my company has just changed it's travel policy to no longer allow C travel, this is kind of critical for me. I will probably get to 40-50K points and may have to do some serious privately funded mileage running in order to get to LTPE and at least be able to sit in the EC section..
