Fortunately, I have one of these UA Club Card credit cards that essentially provides all the perks of normal travel insurance benefits. It's covered my hotel stays and meals when I miss connections like this.
I got it with a free year's annual fee promotion, and this perk is showing me that the steep annual fee of $395 might just pay for itself since I don't have to get separate travel insurance anymore. I'm still mulling over renewal of this thing and this thread reminded me.
When the customer service lines are long when travel gets hit by havoc, the club entry is nice to find a much smaller customer service line too, with complimentary attitude adjustment drink.
