Depending on the wheel size (if it's possible), Consider the cost of a bike shop disssembling/re-assembling at both ends into an otherwise compliant sized luggage. Don't tell them it's a bike. It might be cheaper; especially considering the additional onward international leg.

Or, as been mentioned here, just go to the post office and ship it (best all the way to AUS).
