If you don't intend to be pulled over, then don't be caught in an intersection as the light turns red. That's how you avoid blocking the box. Ignore the 'idiot' (you mentioned earlier) who is honking his horn if you don't block the box. What does that driver matter to you? FYI, that 'idiot' is risking points and a $350 fine for using his horn.
