I guess I was ahead of the curve on this one, I switched a year ago from a regular (post-paid) plan to a T-Mobile prepaid. Mine is $50/month for unlimited voice & text & data, with the first 500M/mo high-speed.

The LG Optimus T was about $100; it's an older Android, but serviceable.

I've been satisfied.
