There are hourly trains from Brig to Oberwald, that take the same route as the Glacier Express. OK, you don't get the panorama windows, but the scenery is the same and the train might be less crowded. From Oberwald you can take the bus 2-4 times a day for the scenic trip to Innertkirchen and Meiringen.
