First Class Food?
Flying back from PHX on Wednesday, I made a bad choice for my main course in FIRST. What was described as something like "mini veal rib with Swiss chard and risotto" was a lump of dried-up (what was supposed to be) meat atop a mean jus or gravy accompanied by the greens and a small amount of salty wet risotto. The meat was so dense it could not be cut with the knife.
We were late departing and I was tired so I made do with the starter and a bit of cheese. The crew member serving took it away without comment, but when pressed for her opinion said "we couldn't believe it either". Be very wary if this appears on your menu!
I sent a brief note of comment to CR and got a boilerplate response that mainly misunderstood my point, but proffered 10,000 Avios anyway. I would really rather have been served edible food.
On a connected point, this is the first time I have been able to compare NF with OF and MF with WW on the same round trip. I have to say my preference on the 744 is for OF - NF really is crammed-in and I found OF more able to be adjusted to my comfort. I also preferred WW: whilst the young MF crew on the daytime LHR-LAX were charming enough, their inexperience really showed on several occasions to the point that it was almost not like being on a BA flight. (Mind you, that is trumped by my greeting at the plane door in PHX: "straight down on your left to the very front" whereafter I was left to my own devices for 10 minutes whilst others were being properly looked after. Yes, this chap was momentarily on his own; but I'm sure there's some other way to handle such a situation.)
