Sheraton Soma Bay Resort, Hurghada, Egypt [Master Thread]
Just back from a 10 day stay at this place and I would like to share experiences as very little is available on flyertalk
- Rooms: are well maintained, could need some updating. However they are 100% clean. Different kind of rooms are available, however I recommend to chose at least a sea view or executive suite, beach access bungalows will not have automatically sea view.
- Food: Food is of excellent quality. BB is sufficient as a la carte menu is good value for money. AI is in my eyes only worth if you order a drink once an hour. Water is free of charge in the entire hotel. HB around 30€, AI around 70€, dishes a la carte as of 9€, average 15€. Excellent breakfast buffet, fresh orange juice, eggs, waffles, crepes,...
When hotel is full, restaurants are pretty crowded, only moment where you feel like in a tour operator hotel.
- Staff: they love the place they work for and you feel it. Excellent staff.
- Activities: Pretty quiet place, some volleyball, aqua gym and other sport activities. Fitness is pretty small and old but allows full work out! Diving center is perfect. thanks to the house reef you can do a full dive without taking car or boat. Price is reasonable. We paid for 10 dives, including equipment around 330€. Perfect place for divers!
- Airport pick up: chose this option for €40, they pick you up within security zone and guide you through security where other people have to wait. From the plane to the hotel : 1h including a 40km ride
- SPG: as a Platinum they upgrade according to SPG policy, gift is offered, free WIFI (although very slow), no lounge unfortunately
- Beach: wonderful, enough space for everybody but no quiet beach area.
As a category 3 hotel it is pretty cheap and offers service and quality of a category 5, rooms of category 4. In my eyes one of the best price/quality ratios ever seen at Starwood.
- Area: only hotels, not really something else to do, they organize transfer to Hurghada.
Important sign that hotel is wonderful are the number of returning people, coming back for sometimes more than 10 years.
