We just participated in the full day cooking class at Basil Cooking School in Chiang Mai. Friends of ours had done the half day class at Siam Rice, which was recommended by our hotel, but we were very impressed with the owner of Basil's communication with us by email and my husband booked this one for us.

Cost - approx $30 USD per person for the "full day" which ends around 3-4pm. All of the cooking schools seem to follow the same schedule - pickup at the hotel around 9AM, quick tour of the market (our instructor, Benz, was excellent - asking us to smell, taste various items at the market), then back to the school. Before we walked in to the market, we were each handed a menu and you were to check off your choice of 4 dishes for each course. There were vegetarian options available for each course. Offhand, I recall making an appetizer, soup, salad, stir fry, thai entree, curry and dessert. There were two other participants besides us, and space for up to 8 wok stations in the kitchen area. Each course made plenty and we all tried each other's food. After each course was complete, we could sit for 15-30 minutes and eat. The school supplied bottled water via a cooler.

There was a 40 minute "lunch" break and we used the time to walk around the area and grab an iced coffee nearby.

Just wanted to add that the other two participants (who were staying at a hostel) asked to take home their leftovers and the school readily packaged everything up for them in small bags.

Overall, a great experience.
