Yes, the DA earns points toward status. Look at the earnings page on FlyerBonus and you'll see that the lowest fare often sold, Q, earns a certain amount of points while the next fare up, H, earns Q+5. When you purchase a DA it books into L, which is higher than H, so you'll earn the higher point level in the Eco breakdown.
