Reasoning: WN is the airline for the once a year traveler who has no idea how to pack properly, how much is needed for a week long trip, or what size carryons should be. Other airlines you have people making day trips or overnight trips who have been around the block a few times.

Result: They check bags AND bring on things way bigger than carryons to stuff in the bins sideways.
