Since you are only an AM member now, there is nothing to lose if you ask your TA or reservation to have your FF number removed now and claim it when you are 18 and after you become an MPO member. Worst case you still won't get the MPO miles / sectors but just AM. However, there is nothing to lose.
Gotchu. I didn't get a chance to read that post before I flew, I'll pick up a paper application on my way back to YYZ. I went along with omitting the FF number on my flight.

The $50 USD is not an issue for the benefits the card reaps. If anything, I can ask one of my relatives to get me a Cathay Pacific AMEX supplementary card to save the $50 USD.
