Only drawback to AMS is that you will have to wait at a barrier for passport check to get into the so-called "Schengen Area" concourse, and then re-clear security at the gate house within that concourse. You'll go through the customs "green line" at BCN. Other than that, AMS is a way better connecting airport than JFK.
