It depends on which train company you will be taking. If its IC/EX then nothing really between 1st and 2nd, but TLK then yes. They are basically the same seats, but 1st is usually empty vs a packed 2nd class so I usually pay the extra 40pln to get more room.

Krakow by all means. Poznan as a second choice. Lodz for half a day (but in the summer). Bydgoszcz ... just skip it.
Use IC / EX train - 40USD one way - just did it yesterday.
