I always considered DoubleTree to be the Crowne Plaza of the Hilton group (have I just been lucky with the few DT's I've stayed in?). Hilton itself seems to be a catch all brand covering hotels at a Holiday Inn standard up to 5 stars.
One thing that has always seemed odd to me, why is the London Waldorf a Hilton and not a Waldorf Astoria?
