I was lucky enough to be on a Concorde charter run by Canterbury Travel to Luxor and Cairo. We were advised on the flight from LHR that the take off from Luxor would be something special, bit further details were given. When we boarded at Luxor for the short flight to Cairo the captain, who had already told us that this was his last trip as pilot, explained what was about to happen. Basically as it was a short trip the plane was a lot lighter as less fuel was required, secondly as we were taking off over desert there were no sound level laws to be obeyed and thirdly it was company policy to always use full power when taking off. He may well have made that last bit up, but wow – what a take off. Was it noisy? Who cares? The Krug must have dampened the noise
