I don't really see a problem with
MSPEconomist's word choice here. She doesn't say anything nasty about the agent; in fact, she infers that the agent is polite and courteous because he/she asked how her trip was. People use the term "dragon" just as much as they use the word "kettle." Neither is inherently derogatory - it's just the idea that a "dragon" guards a "castle," whether that castle is a Sky Club or the sterile area past the TSA checkpoint.
