Unrelated to AA, but supports OP's point:

Flew AZ's Y+ last summer. Was only $1000 more than Y. Same route again this June, got a J ticket for only $1500 more than Y. So like others have said, when it comes to summer travel to Europe, finding those discount J tickets can be a great bargain.
