I looked at this strategy for JFK-GRU this past December, but the price multiple to J was far too much - J was 4.2x my discounted economy (can't remember the fare code). So we burned eight SWUs instead. Well worth it for a nine plus hour flight.

Edit - piqued my curiousity. Just checked for a mid-July 2013 trip, and the morning flight multiple was 3.2x and the evening was 3.7x based on Y to J/F (perhaps an auto upgrade on the triple 7 to F which would most definitely be worth it).
