Wangfujing is better if you want to be really close to the center of the city, while Chaoyang is better if you're into food and exploring more of the city as a whole (i.e. much easier access to points north, and I believe the Conrad is pretty close to Line 6).
Okay I think I'll go with Wangfujing after all. Not sure if staying at the Conrad for the sake of it being Conrad is worth it over being more centrally located.
