Over the past year I have noticed on several airlines an increases seriousness about the exit row with the FAs spending more time on the issue and then asking each passenger several questions requiring an affirmative answer. It took me by surprise the first time it happened. Not sure if the FAA is focusing more on this but it appears they want exit room passengers to more fully appreciate their obligations (however remote) and to be prepared and able to respond not just willing to pay to enjoy more legroom. I have seen several people relocated (a family with a child, a person who apparently did not read or understand english - unable to read the palcard or underdstand the FA, and a tall and feeble looking older gentleman). Obviously, you were singled out for some reason but 5C is not a bad seat. Of course, it could also be a power trip as it seems some FAs can't wait for the door to close so they can hassle anyone using a cell phone even when the plane is still at the gate and not moving.
