I think expedia has a 24 hour cancel (part of the DOT requirements, IIRC). Yes, you can call Delta once booked and ask if the fare is published or unpublished. I have done it a few times.

I would also suggest calling Delta and seeing if they can reproduce the itinerary. I have had luck in getting them to price and ticket itineraries that were available on ITA but not DL.com (with other airlines etc).
