I know this might sound very simple but considering my experience using Avios / miles is just about 2 years, I really do need help / advice from you all in this forum.

Here's the scenario

Family of 4 – kids are 6yr & 1 yr old
Got 1 companion voucher expiring Feb 2014.
Got 76,000 avios at the moment

Required: CW ticket to the USA

We are planning of flying to Orlando / Miami / Houston in CW later in d year (depending on availability) but not sure of the best option to make that happen. Please can experienced pple share their ideas with me?. Here are my options:

1. Buy 24,000 miles for £399 to make up 100k miles then use companion voucher wth 6 yr old, total tax is abt £1140 + buy a cash ticket for wife and baby (£2600) = £4,139
2. Find a way to spend £20k on Amex to get an additional companion voucher before Jan 2014 and use 2 companion vouchers (is this allowed?). This means I only pay taxes of about £2400 for the 4 of us (and paying 10k avios for baby). Is this a realistic option as it might take 6 months to build up spending and no guarantee of availability? =£2400
3. Find other opportunities to increase current 76k avios to 210k needed to book CW tickets.
4. Can I use Upgrade Using Avios in conjunction with a companion voucher? Any ideas will be deeply appreciated.
