I am not all that surprised and will consider changing.

However, right now we are thinking that we might just as well take the three or four hour connection at SYD the following morning to get on the transpac without any further loitering. We will have made our stop in Sydney before the DO and will need to get home sooner or later. We will have time on Monday to maybe take in a few more sights and have at least a drink with whoever is still around in Perth.

BTW, we are in a quandary about Sunday since it appears that the Swan River excursion laps over into the time to get to the footie. Can we do both?
