I'm not overly keen on the location of the Doubletree. It's kind of in between the 2 touristy areas, with residential right around it. The view of the American Falls I would guess it being so-so even from the top floors, and I doubt you would see the Horseshoe Falls at all from there. But I think you may have issues getting the Fallsview area hotels for the price you are looking at -Embassy Suites, Hilton, Four Points etc. When I look up hotels on betterbidding.com, one comment that comes up fairly often when someone asks for help ID-ing a 4 star is "beware that this might be the Doubletree, so if you are happy with that, go for it" or words to that effect. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, to me.

I wouldn't discount the hotels you can get through fallsavenueresort.com. Especially if you get the Sheraton On the Falls or the Crowne Plaza. These hotels are right at the Rainbow Bridge, and have the Clifton Hill area as well as the original Casino Niagara adjacent, if those things interest you. Also an easy walk to the river front. Good views of the American Falls, and a decent view of the Horseshoe, depending on the room. The Doubletree beats these hotels on proximity to that restaurant, and maybe price, but I think Falls Ave is the better place to stay a couple nights than Fallsview.

Also look at http://www.niagaraparks.com/plan/buy...-packages.html when you get closer to your travel date for the adventure passes they sell. Right now, they have the Magic pass which only goes another few weeks. But you will be able to buy a pass that gets you several attractions and free bus service. It's a really good package to look at.
