Thanks for the tips. We have solved our laundry problem by renting an apartment that has a washer and dryer. Will just do a load each night. Actually turned out less expensive than the hotels we were looking at.

I did search around for laundries, and found a bunch. All mentioned dry cleaning but, could not find any information on what we call wash and fold service. Don't know if this is known by another term in Australia.

Thanks, too, for the tips on Canberra. Those are exactly the kinds of things we like to do. Looks like we will have about a day and a half for sightseeing there.
