Not only were we surprised but about 50+ other people/families found out the same thing. We are lined up against the glass wall across from the check-in counters. Stupid policy IMO.
FLL is YMMV. The amount of cruise traffic totally overwhelms their baggage operation, and they have strict cut-offs for checked baggage as a result. The cruise ships drop everyone off at the same time, but some passengers won't have flights for 6+ hours. There simply isn't enough room to store all of the surplus bags all day. This issue is not limited to DL. Unfortunately, I can't recall what the current cut-off time is at FLL for DL.
