If you like booze, DTW has a self-service bar, but davetravels is correct, spending hours upon hours there I would not consider fun.
More fun than missing the international flight and having to take one the next day.
Also, Melanie, there is a Westin attached to the terminal. It's not cheap, but they may have a day rate. That is another option.
