Another interesting tidbit, the flight out was going through YZZ (Toronto) on Air Canada. Apparently that is treated as a domestic carrier or something and the layover couldn't be more than 4 hours. So what was originally a 6 hour layover there was too long, but we worked it out.

Now it's ticketed and within the 24hr window you can call back and try and make the change (which will be free), often agents are more willing to add stops/openjaws on existing tickets.

For you to quote at the agent from the Award Rules:
Two open jaws are permitted per roundtrip award. For example, you can fly from Newark to London and return from Paris to Washington Dulles.

A stopover is permitted on roundtrip award travel only. One stopover is permitted, unless otherwise noted. Additional mileage may be required for Saver Awards within the mainland U.S., Alaska and Canada.
