I understand in AF I need to buy Premium E to upgrade to BE so is more expensive. I could also take a flight to AMS and go the next day to JFK as I have business in AMS. Too many variables to figure out but assuming I could get BE, what are the views of AF v. KLM v. Delta. Thanks in advance for any help on this.

If you can fly on a reconfigured DL ship (generally 76W or 76D, but anything with 1-2-1 seating up front) definitely go for DL. Very comfortable seats and service has been firing on all cylinders lately.
