On the down side, I'll have to check in earlier. When I do check bags I often don't have much time to spare.

On the plus side, if check-in closes 45 minutes prior to departure, and most BP's show boarding starting 35 minutes prior to departure, maybe the clearing of waitlisted upgrades at the gate will become more efficient (instead of the current state where agents won't process upgrades by the time boarding is supposed to start because check-in hasn't closed yet).
