Haven't flown UA in a while, will be on AA & DL next month ... but last we heard, non-alcohol beverages are still offered & free (coffee is still awful but improved) if those FA's aren't hiding in the rear gallery w. curtains drawn. IFE doesn't cost anything (ain't worth much either) w. el cheapo headset (we prefer our own and IFE from our iPad or Nexus 7, custom tailored) - in other words, don't expect much. Check the UA section as should be updated info posted over there.

Can't stand paying for overpriced food at most hubs where we must do connections or flying back home from ... that's when our flights are on schedule and we aren't running like rabbits on fire to not miss the final boarding call & had to choose sometime of doing a bathroom stop or stand in a long line for food. Sad to sometimes hear those reminder overhead announcement about getting your own food cause it's a long flight, bah bah
For long flights, we try to plan ahead - some trail mixes, dried fruits, energy bars, favorite crackers, broiled eggs, maybe cheese, and sometimes freshly bakery items. Try our best to avoid meat or things that will spoil easily at/near room temperature after a few hours. Coming back from the LAX, we often stop at one of the local Lee's Sandwiches for their good & freshly made French Baguettes stuffed with one's choice of fillings, hmmmmm good. Relative of ours recently flew & they took cup-a-noodles with them, yes - Walmart's 29 cents specials as served on UA TPAC flight as snacks in the main cabin (on CX too, I recall) - asked FA for hot water, 5 minutes later ... what a riot they nearly triggered in coach.
Hell, in no way that we would fly a CRJ down to IAD-HNL or do EWR-HNL and go 14 or 15 hours without at least 1 full hot & non airline-sized meal.
HKG-PVG on 734's - 3 hours & full meal in all cabin classes & ice cream = free
CAN-PEK on 772's - 3.5 hours & full meal in all cabin classes = free
HKG-SGN on 333's - 3 hours & full breakfast for all = free
What we put up with & nothing to chew with ...

- after belts off, shoes in tray, wallet in the backpack, no liquid except 3-1-1, and arms out/up, yeah ... this is afterall, Amer-ica
