changing credit cards in profile question

I just canceled the credit card that is in my Marriott Profile. I put the new credit card in my profile, and changed the profile to show that the new credit card is the preferred one. I checked my next upcoming reservation, and it says that the room is guaranteed to the old credit card.

My question is how does Marriott use credit card info to guarantee reservations? Will the hotel automatically use the new credit card that I just entered? Or do I need to call? Thanks
