It's sort of a moot point whether or not you can get your bags checked-through as you must collect them before clearing customs at your US point of entry regardelss. In my experience, the baggage carousel tends to be the rate limiting step more often than immigration. If I were you, I'd either bring no checked baggage or get on a later connecting flight.
