Just buy a 4GB micro-sd card for around $6, like this one. The map updater software will figure out it won't fit on the internal memory and offer to put it on the sd card. You can also search for tips on deleting old maps from garmin products.

I have a 2GB SD card on my nuvi, and the last update (last week) wouldn't fit in the internal memory. I had previously deleted old maps, I just let it use the SD card this time.
